Pope Benedict on the Feast of the Epiphany in Rome announced that he will elevate 22 men to the position of Cardinal in February. Included among them are two Americans, Archbishop of New York, Timothy Dolan, 61, and the former Archbishop of Baltimore, Edwin O'Brien, 72. Congratulations to both men.
It's likely that Archbishop Chaput of Philadelphia is on the short list for the next consistory, but this will have to wait because the former Archbishop of Philadelphia, Justin Rigali, is still of voting age in the College of Cardinals. As Rigali nears the age of 80 in 2015, Chaput will likely be selected for the crimson.
